Some people pass through your life. Others help build it. Wayne Freedman belongs firmly in the second group.
For more than 25 years, Wayne has been one of my closest and most loyal friends — and one of the quiet forces behind everything The Golf Ball Fitter has become. Long before this business found its footing, Wayne believed in it. He opened doors I couldn’t have opened myself, introducing me to authors and reporters, sitting in as they filmed my fitting process, and welcoming my family as if they were his own. That kind of generosity isn’t common. With Wayne, it was simply who he is.
Over the years I’ve built Wayne at least ten sets of clubs, and each one taught me something. He became my chief beta tester and my most trusted source of honest feedback — the rare friend who tells you the truth because he wants you to be great, not just comfortable. Much of what I know about reading a player, refining a fit, and chasing that last degree of precision, I owe in part to Wayne’s eye, his patience, and his willingness to test, question, and push.
Wayne and his wife Susan are, simply put, spectacular people. The warmth they’ve shown me and my family over the decades is something I’ll carry for the rest of my life.
So it’s only right that I dedicate this website to Wayne Freedman — a true friend, a steady mentor, and a man whose belief in this craft helped make it what it is today.
